Why is my washing machine no longer draining?
Usually the pump filter at the bottom front is clogged with lint, coins or hair pins. Unplug the machine, put a shallow tray or a towel under the flap and unscrew the filter slowly. More water comes out than you expect.
Filter clean and the water still stays in the drum? Check that the drain hose behind the machine isn’t kinked. If that’s fine, the drain pump or the pressure switch is normally at fault. That is a routine repair.
Why has my washing machine stopped spinning?
Often the load is unbalanced: a single wet towel or a pair of jeans can be enough to block the spin. Spread the laundry and start a spin programme. If nothing happens, it usually comes down to worn carbon brushes in the motor, a faulty tacho generator or a broken belt.
Why is water leaking from under my washing machine?
Look at the door seal first: hair, dirt or a small tear is enough. Also check that the inlet hose is tight. Too much detergent creates foam that escapes through the drawer or the door. If it keeps leaking, the leak is inside: the tub, the pump housing or a hose. Turn off the tap and have a technician take a look.
Why is my washing machine so loud when it spins?
Check that the transport bolts at the back have been removed and that the machine is level. A metallic noise that grows louder as the drum speeds up almost always means worn bearings. Don’t wait too long: a broken bearing eventually damages the tub.
What does the error code on my washing machine’s display mean?
Every manufacturer uses its own list of codes. We explain the most common codes per brand, with what you can safely try yourself: Miele, AEG and Bosch. Note the code before you book, so the technician brings the right part.

My washing machine is in a shared cellar: can you repair it there?
Yes. The technician works where the machine is. Make sure there is light, a reachable socket and about a metre of space to pull the machine forward. If the cellar is locked, tell us when booking who can open it.
Water is coming back up the drain: is it my machine or the building?
If water also comes up in the sink or the shower, the problem is most likely in the building’s shared drain stack, not in your machine. Let the building manager (syndic) or a plumber know. If only the machine drains badly, that’s a job for us.
Does the machine have to go down the stairs?
No. We repair on site, in your flat. That is another reason to repair: getting a new machine up a narrow or spiral staircase is often harder than the repair itself.
Repair or replace your washing machine?
For a machine under ten years old, a repair of €179 at most, plus any parts, is almost always cheaper than a new machine with delivery and removal of the old one. If the technician sees that a repair makes no sense, for example worn bearings on a very old machine, he tells you honestly. You then only pay the €69 diagnosis.
Repairing also means one machine less at the recycling centre. And you keep an appliance you know, in its place in your cellar or bathroom.
