Samsung washing machine repair at home

Is 4E, 5E, UE or another code showing on your Samsung? Below you can read what the code means and what you can try yourself. If that doesn’t work, a technician comes to your home.

Samsung washing machines show a fault as a short code on the display. The code tells you which part is causing the problem. Some of these you can solve yourself, such as a blocked filter, a closed tap or an unevenly spread load. The pump, door lock, motor or heating element need a technician.

We carry out Samsung washing machine repairs at home across Belgium. The diagnosis costs €69. If you decide not to go ahead, that’s all you pay. If you choose the repair, it costs a maximum of €179 in total.

Samsung washing machine error codes

Samsung shows a fault as a short code of numbers and letters, such as 4E, 5E or UE. On some models the code is written differently, such as nF, nd or Sud. Mention the code when you book, so the technician brings the right part.

CodeWhat is going onDIY fix
4E, 4C, nFNo water or too little. Tap closed, hose kinked or the mesh filter in the connection blocked.Yes
5E, 5C, SE, ndThe water won't drain. Lint filter blocked, drain hose kinked or drain pump faulty.Yes
UE, UBUnbalanced load. The laundry is unevenly spread or the machine isn't level.Yes
dE, dC, dE1, dE2The door isn't closed properly or the door lock isn't working.Partly
tE, tC, t1The temperature sensor is sending a wrong signal. No
HE, HC, HE1The water doesn't heat up: heating element, sensor or control board. No
OEToo much water in the drum: water valve or water level sensor. No
Sd, Sud, SUDSToo much foam, usually from too much or the wrong detergent.Yes
LC, LcThe leak sensor has detected water. Turn off the tap.No
3C, 3C1, 3C2Motor fault: the drum doesn't turn, or not properly.No

If the last column says No, the fault involves mains-powered parts or electronics. Working on those yourself is dangerous and often makes the damage worse. Book a technician instead.

The most common Samsung error codes explained

What does error code 4E mean on a Samsung washing machine?

4E, 4C or nF means the washing machine is getting no water or too little. Open the tap fully and check that the inlet hose isn’t kinked. Then turn off the tap, unscrew the hose at the back of the machine and brush the small mesh filter in the connection clean with a toothbrush. Reconnect the hose, open the tap and check for leaks. Switch the machine off for two minutes and restart. If the code stays, the water valve is probably faulty.

What does error code 5E mean on a Samsung washing machine?

5E, 5C, SE or nd means the water isn’t draining, or too slowly. nd stands for no drain and is the same fault on other models.

  1. Unplug the machine and open the flap at the bottom right of the front.
  2. Put a shallow tray under the flap and let the remaining water run out through the emergency drain hose.
  3. Unscrew the pump filter anticlockwise and remove lint, coins, buttons and hair ties.
  4. Check that the pump impeller can turn freely.
  5. Screw the filter back in firmly clockwise and close the flap.
  6. Check that the drain hose isn’t kinked and start a drain programme.

If 5E stays with a clean filter, the drain pump is faulty.

What does error code UE mean on a Samsung washing machine?

UE or UB means the drum is unevenly loaded. Samsung machines would rather stop than keep shaking, so this is normal behaviour. Shake the laundry loose and spread it evenly. With a small load, such as a single pair of jeans, add a towel. Also check that the machine is level and that all four feet stand firmly on the floor. If UE comes back with a well-spread load, the shock absorbers or drum bearing may be worn.

What does error code dE mean on a Samsung washing machine?

dE, dC, dE1 or dE2 means the door isn’t closed properly or the door lock isn’t working. Check that no laundry is trapped between the door and the seal, wipe the hook on the door and the lock clean, and take some laundry out if the drum is overfilled. Close the door until you hear a click. No click, or does the code stay? Then the door lock is faulty.

What does error code tE mean on a Samsung washing machine?

tE, tC or t1 points to the temperature sensor. Sometimes it’s a temporary glitch: unplug the machine, wait at least 30 minutes and restart. If the code comes back, the sensor or its wiring needs replacing.

What does error code HE mean on a Samsung washing machine?

HE, HC or HE1 means the machine isn’t heating the water. Often there’s limescale on the heating element, especially with hard water. Run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, then try a reset: unplug for five minutes. If HE keeps coming back, the heating element or the sensor is faulty.

What does error code OE mean on a Samsung washing machine?

OE means there’s too much water in the drum. First let the water out using the drain programme or the emergency drain hose. Then unplug the machine for ten minutes and start an empty drain programme. If the machine fills up again while it’s switched off, the water valve no longer closes. Turn off the tap and have a technician come.

What does error code Sud mean on a Samsung washing machine?

Sd, Sud or SUDS means there’s too much foam in the drum. The machine waits by itself for the foam to settle and then carries on; that can take 15 to 30 minutes. If it doesn’t, unplug it for ten minutes and run a rinse without detergent. Use less detergent from now on: for lightly soiled laundry, half the dose is often enough.

What does error code LC mean on a Samsung washing machine?

LC or Lc means the leak sensor has detected water. Unplug the machine and turn off the tap. Check that the inlet and drain hoses are firmly connected, that the door seal isn’t torn and that there’s no moisture under or behind the machine. An LC message always points to a real leak. Don’t run the machine until it’s fixed.

What does error code 3C mean on a Samsung washing machine?

3C, 3C1 or 3C2 concerns the motor. Open the door and turn the drum by hand: does it turn freely? Remove any laundry trapped between the drum and the seal, or take some out if the drum is overfilled. Switch the machine off for five minutes and restart. If 3C stays, the motor or the motor control is faulty.

Samsung washing machine problems without an error code

What do I do if the door seal of my Samsung washing machine is damaged?

A torn or leaking door seal, the gasket, causes water at the front of the machine. Check the seal all the way round for cracks or holes, including in the fold at the bottom. Replacing a door seal is a technical repair; book a technician for it.

Why won’t my Samsung washing machine start?

First check in the fuse box that the circuit for the washing machine hasn’t tripped, and that the plug is firmly in the socket. Is the child lock on? On most Samsung models you switch it off by holding the Temp and Rinse buttons together for three seconds; check the manual for your model. Close the door again until you hear a click. Then unplug the machine for a minute and try again. If it still won’t start, the control board or the door lock is usually faulty.

How do I reset a Samsung washing machine?

A reset won’t fix a mechanical fault, but it does clear a code that has got stuck. Turn the programme dial to Off, unplug the machine and wait five minutes. Plug it back in and choose a short programme, such as rinse or drain. If the same code comes straight back, something really is broken and resetting again won’t help.

How do I prevent faults on my Samsung washing machine?

Three habits make the difference. Clean the lint filter regularly: a full filter causes most drainage problems. Once a month, run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, because washing cold leaves grease, soap and limescale in the drum and on the heating element. And go easy on the detergent; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is often enough. If your Samsung has a Drum Clean or Eco Drum Clean programme, use it once a month without laundry.

Your Samsung working again, with no surprises

Repair at home. The technician explains what is broken and what the repair costs before starting.

We are not an authorised Samsung service partner and we don't pretend to be. We are an independent repair service. For you, that mainly means: no waiting list of several weeks, a fixed price you know in advance, and a technician who works on Samsung and other washing machines every day.

We repair every Samsung washing machine, including AddWash, ecobubble and QuickDrive, the WW and WF models and smart models with SmartThings. Samsung parts are generally readily available, so a repair almost always works out.

If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we refer you to Samsung or to the shop where you bought it. A repair by us could void that warranty, and that is not in your interest.

Where do we repair Samsung washing machines at home?

Our technicians work in Antwerp, the Brussels-Capital Region, East Flanders, West Flanders, Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant.

Do your technicians have to travel from Vilvoorde every morning?

No. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off each morning from their own town. The parts they need are delivered straight to their home. That way we reach you quickly, without long drives and often as soon as the next working day.

Not a Samsung, or a different appliance?

Our washing machine repair page lists the symptoms and prices for every brand. Is another Samsung appliance broken, such as a dishwasher or tumble dryer? See our Samsung repair service page. And if a second appliance is faulty besides your washing machine, we repair it during the same visit for 80 euros extra.

Almost always. For an appliance under eight years old, a repair of at most €179 is nearly always cheaper than a new machine. After the diagnosis, the technician tells you honestly whether the repair is worth it.

All models: AddWash, ecobubble, QuickDrive, the WW and WF ranges and smart models with SmartThings.

No. If your Samsung is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, contact Samsung or the shop where you bought it. A repair by us could void that warranty.

Often as soon as the next working day. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off from their own town. When you book, you immediately see which slots are free.

We give a 3-month warranty on every repair we carry out. If the same fault comes back within that period, we return at no extra cost.

Make the washing machine accessible and leave room to pull it forward. Take the laundry out of the drum. Having the model number and the error code to hand makes the diagnosis quicker. The model number is usually on a sticker in the door opening.
