Zanussi washing machine repair at home
Is E20, E40, E10 or another code showing on your Zanussi? Below you can read what the code means and what you can try yourself. If that doesn’t work, a technician comes to your home.
Zanussi washing machines report a fault with a code that starts with an E or a C. The code tells you which part is causing the problem. Some of these you can solve yourself, such as a blocked filter, a closed tap or too much detergent. The pump, door lock, motor or control board need a technician.
We carry out Zanussi washing machine repairs at home across Belgium. The diagnosis costs €69. If you decide not to go ahead, that’s all you pay. If you choose the repair, it costs a maximum of €179 in total.

Zanussi washing machine error codes
Zanussi shows a fault as a code starting with E or C, followed by a number. Zanussi belongs to the Electrolux group: the codes are the same as on AEG and Electrolux (see also our AEG washing machine repair page). Mention the code when you book.
| Code | What is going on | DIY fix |
|---|---|---|
| E10, C1 | No water or too little. Tap closed, hose kinked or the filter in the connection scaled up. | Yes |
| E20, C2, E21 | The water won't drain. Lint filter blocked, drain hose kinked or pump faulty. | Yes |
| E40, C4, E41 | The door won't close or the door lock is faulty. | Partly |
| E50, C5, E51 | Motor fault: the machine won't spin. | Partly |
| E60, C6 | The water doesn't heat up: heating element, sensor or limescale. | No |
| E61 | The temperature sensor isn't giving a correct signal. | No |
| EF0, EF3 | Too much foam, usually from too much detergent. | Yes |
| E90, E91 | Control board fault. The machine doesn't respond, or only partly. | No |
If the last column says No, the fault involves mains-powered parts or electronics. Working on those yourself is dangerous and often makes the damage worse. Book a technician instead.
The most common Zanussi error codes explained
What does error code E10 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E10 or C1 means the washing machine is getting no water or too little. Open the tap fully and check that the inlet hose isn’t kinked. Then turn off the tap, unscrew the hose at the back and brush the small mesh filter in the connection clean; limescale often builds up there. Reconnect the hose, open the tap and switch the machine off for two minutes. If E10 stays, the water valve may be faulty.
What does error code E20 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E20, C2 or E21 means the water isn’t draining, or too slowly.
- Unplug the machine and open the flap at the bottom of the front.
- Put a shallow tray under the flap and let the remaining water run out through the small hose.
- Unscrew the pump filter anticlockwise and remove lint, coins, buttons and hair ties.
- Check that the pump impeller turns freely.
- Screw the filter back in firmly clockwise and close the flap.
- Check that the drain hose isn’t kinked and start a drain programme.
If E20 stays with a clean filter, the drain pump is faulty.
What does error code E40 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E40, C4 or E41 means the door isn’t closing properly or the door lock is faulty. Check that no laundry is trapped between the door and the seal, wipe the hook and the lock clean and take some laundry out if the drum is overfilled. Close the door until you hear a click. No click, or does E40 stay? Then the door lock is faulty.
What does error code E50 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E50, C5 or E51 concerns the motor. Your laundry stays wet because the machine doesn’t spin. Check that no clothing is trapped between the drum and the seal and fill the drum no more than three quarters. If the machine is new, check that the transit bolts at the back have been removed. If E50 stays, the motor’s carbon brushes are usually worn or the control board is faulty.
What does error code E60 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E60 or C6 is a heating fault. If the door glass stays cold during a hot programme, the heating element is probably scaled up or faulty. Run an empty wash at 90 degrees with citric acid or a machine cleaner, then unplug the machine for five minutes. If E60 keeps coming back, the heating element or the sensor needs replacing.
What does error code E61 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E61 means the temperature sensor isn’t giving a correct signal, so the machine interrupts the programme. Unplug it, wait at least 30 minutes and restart. If E61 comes back, the sensor or its wiring needs replacing.
What does error code EF0 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
EF0 or EF3 means there’s too much foam in the drum. Take the laundry out and run a rinse or an empty wash without detergent, twice if needed. Use less detergent from now on; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is enough.
What does error code E90 mean on a Zanussi washing machine?
E90 or E91 points to a fault in the main control board or its software. Unplug the machine, wait at least ten minutes and start a short programme such as rinse or drain. If the code has gone, it was a temporary glitch. If E90 stays, the control board is faulty. That is not something to work on yourself.
Zanussi washing machine problems without an error code
Why won’t my Zanussi washing machine start?
First check in the fuse box that the circuit for the washing machine hasn’t tripped, and that the plug is firmly in the socket. Is the child lock on? How to switch it off depends on the model and is explained in the manual. Close the door again until you hear a click. Then unplug the machine for a minute and try again. If it still won’t start, the control board or the door lock is usually faulty.
How do I reset a Zanussi washing machine?
A reset won’t fix a mechanical fault, but it does clear a code that has got stuck. Turn the programme dial to Off, unplug the machine and wait five minutes. Plug it back in and choose a short programme, such as rinse or drain. If the same code comes straight back, something really is broken and resetting again won’t help.
How do I prevent faults on my Zanussi washing machine?
Three habits make the difference. Clean the lint filter regularly: a full filter causes most drainage problems. Once a month, run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, because washing cold leaves grease, soap and limescale in the drum and on the heating element. And go easy on the detergent; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is often enough.
Your Zanussi working again, with no surprises

We are not an authorised Zanussi service partner and we don't pretend to be. We are an independent repair service. For you, that mainly means: no waiting list of several weeks, a fixed price you know in advance, and a technician who works on Zanussi and other washing machines every day.
We repair every Zanussi washing machine, including the FCS, FWS, ZWF and ZWT ranges. Zanussi belongs to the Electrolux group, so parts are widely available and a repair almost always works out.
If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we refer you to Zanussi or to the shop where you bought it. A repair by us could void that warranty, and that is not in your interest.
Where do we repair Zanussi washing machines at home?
Our technicians work in Antwerp, the Brussels-Capital Region, East Flanders, West Flanders, Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant.
Do your technicians have to travel from Vilvoorde every morning?
No. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off each morning from their own town. The parts they need are delivered straight to their home. That way we reach you quickly, without long drives and often as soon as the next working day.
Not a Zanussi, or a different appliance?
Our washing machine repair page lists the symptoms and prices for every brand. Is another Zanussi appliance broken, such as a dishwasher or tumble dryer? See our Zanussi repair service page. And if a second appliance is faulty besides your washing machine, we repair it during the same visit for 80 euros extra.

Almost always. For an appliance under ten years old, a repair of at most €179 is nearly always cheaper than a new machine. After the diagnosis, the technician tells you honestly whether the repair is worth it.

Make the washing machine accessible and leave room to pull it forward. Take the laundry out of the drum. Having the model number and the error code to hand makes the diagnosis quicker. The model number is usually on a sticker in the door opening.
