Whirlpool washing machine repair at home

Is F21, F06, F08 or another code showing on your Whirlpool? Below you can read what the code means and what you can try yourself. If that doesn’t work, a technician comes to your home.

Whirlpool washing machines report a fault with a code that starts with an F or an E. The code tells you which part is causing the problem. Some of these you can solve yourself, such as a blocked filter, a closed tap or too much detergent. The control board, motor, pump or heating element need a technician.

We carry out Whirlpool washing machine repairs at home across Belgium. The diagnosis costs €69. If you decide not to go ahead, that’s all you pay. If you choose the repair, it costs a maximum of €179 in total.

Whirlpool washing machine error codes

Whirlpool shows a fault as a code starting with F or E, followed by a number. Some models also show letter combinations such as FH or FP. Mention the code when you book, so the technician brings the right part.

CodeWhat is going onDIY fix
FH, FA, E1No water. Tap closed, hose kinked or the filter in the connection blocked.Yes
F01Fault in the control board or the triac that controls motor speed. No
F3, F4, F21, FPThe water won't drain. Lint filter blocked, drain hose kinked or pump faulty.Yes
F05, E2The temperature sensor or heating element reports a fault. No
F06, F6The motor isn't turning properly and the laundry stays wet.Partly
F7The motor doesn't reach its speed. Drum overfilled, or transit bolts still fitted.Partly
F08The water doesn't heat up: heating element, sensor or limescale. No
F11Fault in the drain pump or its link with the control board. No
F13, F22The door doesn't close properly or the door lock isn't working.Partly
F18Too much foam, usually from too much detergent.Yes

If the last column says No, the fault involves mains-powered parts or electronics. Working on those yourself is dangerous and often makes the damage worse. Book a technician instead.

The most common Whirlpool error codes explained

What does error code FH mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

FH, FA or E1 means the washing machine isn’t getting any water. Open the tap fully and check that the inlet hose isn’t kinked. Then turn off the tap, unscrew the hose at the back and brush the small mesh filter in the connection clean. Reconnect the hose, open the tap and switch the machine off for two minutes. If the code stays, the water valve may be faulty.

What does error code F01 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F01 points to a fault in the main control board or in the triac, the part that controls the motor’s speed. Unplug the machine, wait at least five minutes and start a short programme such as rinse or drain. If the code has gone, it was a temporary glitch. If F01 stays, the control board is faulty. That is not something to work on yourself.

What does error code F21 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F3, F4, F21 or FP means the water isn’t draining, or too slowly.

  1. Unplug the machine and open the flap at the bottom of the front.
  2. Put a shallow tray under the flap and let the remaining water run out through the small hose.
  3. Unscrew the pump filter anticlockwise and remove lint, coins and buttons.
  4. Check that the pump impeller turns freely.
  5. Screw the filter back in firmly clockwise and close the flap.
  6. Check that the drain hose isn’t kinked and start a drain programme.

If the code stays with a clean filter, the drain pump is faulty.

What does error code F05 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F05 or E2 points to a problem with the temperature sensor or the heating element. Sometimes it’s a temporary glitch: unplug the machine, wait 30 minutes and restart. If the code comes back, a technician needs to replace the sensor or the element. That can usually be done in one visit.

What does error code F06 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F06 or F6 means the motor isn’t turning properly. Your laundry stays wet because the machine doesn’t spin. Turn the drum by hand and check that no clothing is trapped between the drum and the seal. Fill the drum no more than three quarters and restart. If F06 stays, the control board or a motor part is faulty, such as the carbon brushes on older models.

What does error code F7 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F7 means the motor can’t reach the required speed. Take some laundry out and restart. If the machine is new, check that all transit bolts at the back have been removed. With those bolts in, the machine shakes hard and the drum can be damaged. If F7 comes back with a normal load, the motor or motor control is faulty.

What does error code F08 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F08 is a heating fault. Often there’s limescale on the heating element. Run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, then unplug the machine for five minutes. If F08 keeps coming back, the heating element or the sensor is faulty.

What does error code F11 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F11 points to a fault in the drain pump or in the link between the control board and the pump. Water stays in the drum. First clean the filter as for F21, unplug the machine for five minutes and start a drain programme. If you can’t hear the pump running, the pump or the wiring is faulty.

What does error code F13 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F13 or F22 means the door doesn’t close properly or the door lock isn’t working. Check that no laundry is trapped between the door and the seal, wipe the hook and the lock clean and take some laundry out if the drum is overfilled. Close the door until you hear a click. No click, or does the code stay? Then the door lock is faulty.

What does error code F18 mean on a Whirlpool washing machine?

F18 means there’s too much foam in the drum. Take the laundry out and run a rinse or an empty wash without detergent, twice if needed. Use less detergent from now on; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is enough.

Whirlpool washing machine problems without an error code

Why won’t my Whirlpool washing machine start?

First check in the fuse box that the circuit for the washing machine hasn’t tripped, and that the plug is firmly in the socket. Is the child lock on? How to switch it off depends on the model and is explained in the manual. Close the door again until you hear a click. Then unplug the machine for a minute and try again. If it still won’t start, the control board or the door lock is usually faulty.

How do I reset a Whirlpool washing machine?

A reset won’t fix a mechanical fault, but it does clear a code that has got stuck. Turn the programme dial to Off, unplug the machine and wait five minutes. Plug it back in and choose a short programme, such as rinse or drain. If the same code comes straight back, something really is broken and resetting again won’t help.

How do I prevent faults on my Whirlpool washing machine?

Three habits make the difference. Clean the lint filter regularly: a full filter causes most drainage problems. Once a month, run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, because washing cold leaves grease, soap and limescale in the drum and on the heating element. And go easy on the detergent; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is often enough.

Your Whirlpool working again, with no surprises

Repair at home. The technician tells you beforehand what is broken and what the repair costs.

We are not an authorised Whirlpool service partner and we don't pretend to be. We are an independent repair service. For you, that mainly means: no waiting list of several weeks, a fixed price you know in advance, and a technician who works on Whirlpool and other washing machines every day.

We repair every Whirlpool range, from entry-level models to Supreme Care with 6th Sense, FreshCare+ and the ZEN motor. Whirlpool parts are readily available, so a repair almost always works out.

If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we refer you to Whirlpool or to the shop where you bought it. A repair by us could void that warranty, and that is not in your interest.

Where do we repair Whirlpool washing machines at home?

Our technicians work in Antwerp, the Brussels-Capital Region, East Flanders, West Flanders, Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant.

Do your technicians have to travel from Vilvoorde every morning?

No. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off each morning from their own town. The parts they need are delivered straight to their home. That way we reach you quickly, without long drives and often as soon as the next working day.

Not a Whirlpool, or a different appliance?

Our washing machine repair page lists the symptoms and prices for every brand. Is another Whirlpool appliance broken, such as a dishwasher or tumble dryer? See our Whirlpool repair service page. And if a second appliance is faulty besides your washing machine, we repair it during the same visit for 80 euros extra.
