ATAG washing machine repair at home
Is your ATAG no longer draining, is the water staying cold or is it leaking? Below you can read what the cause usually is and what you can try yourself. If that doesn’t work, a technician comes to your home.
ATAG washing machines are solid and last a long time, but after a few years the same parts wear out on them too: the drain pump, the heating element, the door lock, the door seal and the bearings. A full filter or an unevenly spread load you can sort out yourself. For the rest you need a technician, who repairs the appliance at your home.
We carry out ATAG washing machine repairs at home across Belgium. The diagnosis costs €69. If you decide not to go ahead, that’s all you pay. If you choose the repair, it costs a maximum of €179 in total.

Common faults on an ATAG washing machine
These are the faults we see most often on ATAG washing machines. If your machine shows an error code, note it down and mention it when you book: the technician reads the code on site.
| Symptom | Most likely cause | DIY fix |
|---|---|---|
| Won't drain | Blocked lint filter or drain pump, or a faulty pump. | Partly |
| Won't heat | Faulty heating element or thermostat. | No |
| Door fault | Faulty door lock or door switch. | No |
| Vibrates heavily | Worn bearings, shock absorbers or suspension springs. Sometimes just an unevenly spread load. | Partly |
| Leaks | Damaged door seal (gasket), pump or a leak at the back. | No |
| Won't spin | Carbon brushes, motor or control board. | No |
| Shows an error code | Depends on the code; the technician reads it on site. | No |
If the last column says No, the fault involves mains-powered parts or electronics. Working on those yourself is dangerous and often makes the damage worse. Book a technician instead.
ATAG washing machine problems explained
Why won’t my ATAG washing machine drain?
If water stays in the drum, the lint filter is usually full or the drain pump is blocked or faulty. Start with the filter.
- Unplug the machine and open the flap at the bottom of the front.
- Have a shallow tray or an old towel ready: more water comes out than you expect.
- Let the water run out through the emergency drain hose, if your model has one.
- Unscrew the filter anticlockwise and remove coins, buttons and lint.
- Screw the filter back in firmly clockwise and check that the drain hose at the back isn’t kinked.
- Start a short drain programme.
If the machine still won’t drain with a clean filter, the drain pump is faulty. That is a routine repair.
Why won’t my ATAG washing machine heat?
If the laundry comes out cold, even on a 40 or 60 degree programme, the heating element or the thermostat is usually faulty. Limescale and detergent residue on the element speed up that wear. This isn’t a job to do yourself: the element runs on mains power and sits inside the tub. A technician measures it and replaces it.
Why won’t the door of my ATAG washing machine open, or why does it show a door fault?
After a programme, the door sometimes stays locked for a minute or two; wait a moment. If there’s still water in the drum, the door won’t open for safety reasons: drain the water first. Also check that the child lock isn’t on. If the machine won’t start or the door stays shut, the door lock or the door switch is usually faulty.
Why does my ATAG washing machine vibrate so much?
First check that the load is evenly spread and that the machine stands level on all four feet. If it still shakes or moves during the spin, the shock absorbers, suspension springs or bearings are usually worn. A rumbling or grinding noise points to the bearings. Don’t keep running the machine like that for long: the damage quickly gets worse.
Why is my ATAG washing machine leaking?
If the water comes out at the front, check the door seal for cracks or holes, including in the fold at the bottom. If the water comes from under or behind the machine, the leak is usually at the pump or at the back. Turn off the tap and unplug the machine until a technician has been.
Why won’t my ATAG washing machine spin?
First spread the laundry out again and start a spin programme: an uneven load is the most harmless cause. If it still doesn’t work, it’s usually worn motor carbon brushes, the motor itself or the control board. A technician needs to check that.
My ATAG washing machine shows an error code: what now?
Note the code on the display, together with the model number. That is usually on a sticker in the door opening. Try a reset first, as described below. If the code comes back, mention it when you book. The technician reads it on site and knows straight away where to look.
ATAG washing machine won't start or shows a fault
Why won’t my ATAG washing machine start?
First check in the fuse box that the circuit for the washing machine hasn’t tripped, and that the plug is firmly in the socket. Is the child lock on? How to switch it off depends on the model and is explained in the manual. Close the door again until you hear a click. Then unplug the machine for a minute and try again. If it still won’t start, the control board or the door lock is usually faulty.
How do I reset an ATAG washing machine?
A reset won’t fix a mechanical fault, but it does clear a code that has got stuck. Turn the programme dial to Off, unplug the machine and wait five minutes. Plug it back in and choose a short programme, such as rinse or drain. If the same code comes straight back, something really is broken and resetting again won’t help.
How do I prevent faults on my ATAG washing machine?
Three habits make the difference. Clean the lint filter regularly: a full filter causes most drainage problems. Once a month, run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, because washing cold leaves grease, soap and limescale in the drum and on the heating element. And go easy on the detergent; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is often enough.
Your ATAG working again, with no surprises

We are not an authorised ATAG service partner and we don't pretend to be. We are an independent repair service. For you, that mainly means: no waiting list of several weeks, a fixed price you know in advance, and a technician who works on ATAG and other washing machines every day.
We repair every ATAG washing machine, including the newer ranges with touch controls and energy label A. ATAG parts are readily available, so older models can usually be repaired too. We use original or equivalent-quality parts, and the technician tells you beforehand which part is needed and what it costs.
If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we refer you to ATAG or to the shop where you bought it. A repair by us could void that warranty, and that is not in your interest.
Where do we repair ATAG washing machines at home?
Our technicians work in Antwerp, the Brussels-Capital Region, East Flanders, West Flanders, Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant.
Do your technicians have to travel from Vilvoorde every morning?
No. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off each morning from their own town. The parts they need are delivered straight to their home. That way we reach you quickly, without long drives and often as soon as the next working day.
Not an ATAG, or a different appliance?
Our washing machine repair page lists the symptoms and prices for every brand. Is another ATAG appliance broken, such as a dishwasher or tumble dryer? See our ATAG repair service page. And if a second appliance is faulty besides your washing machine, we repair it during the same visit for 80 euros extra.
