Siemens washing machine repair at home

Is E18, E17 or another code showing on your Siemens? Below you can read what the code means and what you can try yourself. If that doesn’t work, a technician comes to your home.

A Siemens washing machine reports a fault with a code on the display. The code tells you where the problem is: the drain, the water supply, the door or a leak. Some of these you can solve yourself, such as a full lint filter or a closed tap. A faulty pump, inlet valve or an internal leak needs a technician.

We carry out Siemens washing machine repairs at home across Belgium. The diagnosis costs €69. If you decide not to go ahead, that’s all you pay. If you choose the repair, it costs a maximum of €179 in total.

Siemens washing machine error codes

Siemens shows a fault as a code on the display, usually an E followed by a number. On some models the same fault appears with an F. Mention the code when you book, so the technician knows where to look.

CodeWhat is going onDIY fix
E18The water won't drain. Usually a blocked lint filter or an obstructed drain, sometimes the pump.Yes
E17The water supply is too slow. Tap not fully open, kinked hose or a blocked fine mesh filter.Yes
E16, F16The door isn't closed properly. Check that no laundry is trapped. If the code stays, the door lock is faulty.Partly
E23Leak: the base protection has detected water. Turn off the tap straight away.No
E32Not a fault. The load is unevenly spread and the machine stops spinning.Yes

If the last column says No, the fault involves mains-powered parts or electronics. Working on those yourself is dangerous and often makes the damage worse. Book a technician instead.

The most common Siemens error codes explained

What does error code E18 mean on a Siemens washing machine?

E18 means the filter is blocked or the drain is obstructed. The machine can’t get the water out and water stays in the drum.

  1. Unplug the machine and open the filter flap at the bottom of the front.
  2. Put a towel or a shallow tray under the flap to catch the water.
  3. Let the water run out through the small drain hose.
  4. Unscrew the filter cap and clean the filter and the opening to the pump. Remove coins, hairpins and bits of fabric.
  5. Screw the filter back in firmly and restart the machine.

If E18 stays with a clean filter and a drain hose that isn’t kinked, the drain pump itself is faulty. A technician repairs that.

What does error code E17 mean on a Siemens washing machine?

E17 means the water supply is too slow. Check that the tap is fully open and that the inlet hose isn’t kinked. Then clean the fine mesh filter in the Aquastop hose connection: turn off the tap first, unscrew the hose and brush the filter clean. If the error comes back, the inlet valve is probably faulty.

What does error code E16 or F16 mean on a Siemens washing machine?

E16 or F16 indicates that the door isn’t closed properly. Check that no clothing is caught between the door and the seal, and close the door again until you hear a click. If the code stays, the door lock is faulty and needs replacing.

What does error code E23 mean on a Siemens washing machine?

E23 indicates a leak: the protection in the base of the machine has detected water. Turn off the tap immediately and unplug the machine. Check whether the door seal is cracked, and whether the machine was overloaded or producing too much foam. Usually the leak is inside and a technician needs to trace it.

What does error code E32 mean on a Siemens washing machine?

E32 is not a fault. The machine detects that the laundry is unevenly spread and interrupts the spin to protect itself. Open the door, spread the laundry evenly around the drum and start the spin programme again. If it happens with every wash, even with a normal load, have the shock absorbers and bearings checked.

Siemens washing machine problems without an error code

Why won’t my Siemens washing machine drain without an error code?

If there’s water in the drum but no code appears, start in the same place as for E18. Open the filter flap at the bottom, set a tray ready and let the water run out through the drain hose. Then unscrew the filter and remove dirt, hairpins or coins. Next, start a drain programme. If it still won’t drain, the pump or the drain hose is the cause.

Why won’t my Siemens washing machine start?

First check in the fuse box that the circuit for the washing machine hasn’t tripped, and that the plug is firmly in the socket. Is the child lock on? How to switch it off depends on the model and is explained in the manual. Close the door again until you hear a click. Then unplug the machine for a minute and try again. If it still won’t start, the control board or the door lock is usually faulty.

How do I reset a Siemens washing machine?

A reset won’t fix a mechanical fault, but it does clear a code that has got stuck. Turn the programme dial to Off, unplug the machine and wait one to three minutes. Plug it back in and choose a short programme, such as rinse or drain. If the same code comes straight back, something really is broken and resetting again won’t help.

How do I prevent faults on my Siemens washing machine?

Three habits make the difference. Clean the lint filter regularly: a full filter causes most drainage problems. Once a month, run an empty wash at 90 degrees with a machine cleaner or citric acid, because washing cold leaves grease, soap and limescale in the drum and on the heating element. And go easy on the detergent; for lightly soiled laundry, half the recommended dose is often enough.

Your Siemens working again, with no surprises

Technician removing a foreign object from between the drum and the tub of a washing machine
Between drum and tub. An object stuck between the drum and the tub makes noise and can damage the drum. Our technician removes it at the customer's home.

We are not an authorised Siemens service partner and we don't pretend to be. We are an independent repair service. For you, that mainly means: no waiting list of several weeks, a fixed price you know in advance, and a technician who works on Siemens and other washing machines every day.

We repair every Siemens washing machine, including the newer models. Most faults we see are in the drain pump, the inlet valve or the door lock. Siemens parts are readily available, so a repair almost always works out.

If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we refer you to Siemens or to the shop where you bought it. A repair by us could void that warranty, and that is not in your interest.

Where do we repair Siemens washing machines at home?

Our technicians work in Antwerp, the Brussels-Capital Region, East Flanders, West Flanders, Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant.

Do your technicians have to travel from Vilvoorde every morning?

No. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off each morning from their own town. The parts they need are delivered straight to their home. That way we reach you quickly, without long drives and often as soon as the next working day.

Not a Siemens, or a different appliance?

Our washing machine repair page lists the symptoms and prices for every brand. Is another Siemens appliance broken, such as a dishwasher or tumble dryer? See our Siemens repair service page. And if a second appliance is faulty besides your washing machine, we repair it during the same visit for 80 euros extra.

Almost always. Siemens builds sturdy machines and parts stay available for a long time. For an appliance under ten years old, a repair of at most €179 is nearly always cheaper than a new machine. If the appliance is old and it’s the drum bearings, the technician will tell you honestly whether replacing it makes more sense.
