Is your cooker hood no longer extracting well, making a lot of noise, or are the motor, lights or buttons not working? Below you can read what is usually wrong and what you can check yourself first.

We repair cooker hoods at home: chimney hoods, island hoods and hoods built into a kitchen cabinet. Often the filters are simply clogged, and you can sort that out yourself. If the motor, the lights or the controls have failed, a technician comes to your home.

The diagnosis costs €69. If you decide not to go ahead with the repair, that is all you pay. If you choose the repair, the total is at most €179, parts extra.

Common cooker hood problems

Why is my cooker hood not extracting properly?

Usually the filters are clogged. A grease filter full of grease lets little air through, and on a hood that blows the air back into the kitchen (recirculation) the carbon filter also becomes saturated over time. If the filters are clean and extraction is still weak, the cause may be the motor or the fan, or a flap in the duct that no longer opens.

Why has the motor of my cooker hood stopped working?

The lights still work, but the fan doesn’t run at any speed? Then the motor itself, its capacitor or the electronics controlling it are usually the cause. If nothing works at all, not even the lights, first check whether the fuse has tripped.

Why is my cooker hood so noisy?

A cooker hood always makes some noise, especially at the highest setting. If you hear a new rattling or grinding sound, something has often come loose, the fan is catching on something or the motor bearings are worn. A grease filter that isn’t seated properly can also rattle.

Why have the lights on my cooker hood stopped working?

Sometimes it is just a bulb or LED spot that has failed. If all the lights go out at once, the cause is more likely the power supply (transformer or driver) or the controls.

Why are the buttons on my cooker hood not responding?

If the control panel doesn’t respond, or only now and then, moisture or grease may have affected the buttons or touch panel, or the electronic module has failed. Try a reset first (see below).

What can you check before calling us?

How do I clean the grease filter of my cooker hood?

Most cooker hoods have metal grease filters that you unclip and wash in the dishwasher or in hot soapy water. Let them dry thoroughly before putting them back. The manual tells you how often. If you cook every day, about once a month is a good rule of thumb.

Do I need to replace the carbon filter in my cooker hood?

Only a hood that blows the air back into the kitchen has a carbon filter. It traps odours and becomes saturated over time. Most carbon filters can’t be washed and have to be replaced. There are also regenerable filters that you clean according to the manual. A saturated carbon filter is an often forgotten cause of poor extraction and lingering cooking smells.

How do I reset my cooker hood?

Switch off the hood’s fuse in the fuse box for a few minutes and then switch it back on, or unplug it if the plug is accessible. The electronics then restart. If a filter maintenance light is on, you can usually switch it off by holding a button for a few seconds. The manual explains how for your model.

Your cooker hood working again, with no surprises

Cooker hood above a hob in a kitchen

We are an independent repair service, not an official service partner of any brand. You know the price in advance and you never pay more than the maximum.

A repair is especially worthwhile for a built-in hood or a more expensive chimney or island model: replacing it often means changes to the kitchen as well. For a cheap model, a new hood is sometimes better value. The technician tells you honestly after the diagnosis, so you can decide.

If the problem isn't the appliance but the duct in the wall or roof, the technician will tell you that too.

Is your cooker hood still under the manufacturer's warranty? Then we refer you to the manufacturer or the shop. A repair by us could void that warranty.

Where do we repair cooker hoods at home?

Our technicians work in Antwerp, the Brussels-Capital Region, East Flanders, West Flanders, Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Liège, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant.

Do your technicians have to set off from Vilvoorde every morning?

No. Our technicians live all over Belgium and set off every morning from their own municipality. The parts they need are delivered straight to their homes. That way we get to you quickly, without long drives, and often as soon as the next working day.
